On this day the Rebbe (R. Yosef Yitzchak) was actually freed.

The imprisonment began at 2:15 a.m. on Wednesday, Sivan 15, 5687 (June 15, 1927). He remained in exile - in the town of Kostrama - until one half-hour past mid-day, Wednesday, Tamuz 13, 5687 (July 13, 1927).

From a letter of the Rebbe to mark the Festival of his Liberation: "I send you a maamar ...which is my participation - for their success - with my beloved friends the chassidim wherever they reside, (which is my way of) being united with you in your התוועדות for the purpose of strengthening the practices of Chassidus, in fixing and observing periods for studying Chassidus and to be stimulated to pragmatically implement those studies...

May our G‑d and G‑d of our Fathers bless the whole community of chassidim - them, their households, their children and grandchildren among all our brothers the people of Israel (G‑d grant them eternal life)[1] with all good things of soul and of flesh."

אין אומרים תחנון. יום בו יצא כ"ק [כבוד קדושת] אדמו"ר [אדוננו מורנו ורבינו] שליט"א [שיחיה לימים טובים ארוכים] לחרות. המאסר הותחל רבע על שעה השלישית אור ליום רביעי חמשה עשר בסיון תרפ"ז. התעכב בגלות - בעיר קאסטראמא - עד חצי שעה אחר חצות היום יום רביעי שלשה עשר בתמוז תרפ"ז. ממכתב כ"ק [כבוד קדושת] אדמו"ר [אדוננו מורנו ורבינו] שליט"א [שיחיה לימים טובים ארוכים] לחג הגאולה: הנני שולח מאמר... השתתפותי עם ידידנו אנ"ש [אנשי שלומינו] שיחיו בכל מקום מושבותיכם להצלחה, ולהיות אתכם עמכם בהתועדותכם בדבר חיזוק דרכי החסידות בקביעות ושמירת זמני למודי דא"ח [דברי אלקים חיים] ולהתעורר בקיום עניני הלימוד... אלקינו ואלקי אבותינו יברך את כללות אנ"ש [אנשי שלומינו] הם ביתם זרעם וזרע זרעם בתוך כלל אחינו בני ישראל, השם עליהם יחיו, בכל מילי דמיטב מנפש ועד בשר.
