Chanukah

Eight nights of light, starting with one candle in the window.

Chanukah marks the rededication of the Temple in Jerusalem after a small group of Jews took it back from the Greek empire — and the single jug of undefiled oil that kept the menorah burning for eight days when there was only enough for one.

Most of the holiday happens at home: one flame the first night, adding one each night, in a menorah placed where it can be seen from the street or a window. Latkes, doughnuts, dreidel, and gelt come with it.

We also light in public. Past years have included a community menorah lighting with a fire show, and carnival games for the kids the following morning. This year’s dates, times, and location go up closer to the holiday — call or email us and we’ll tell you as soon as they’re set.

If you don’t have a menorah, ask us. We’d rather hand you one than have a window stay dark.
