Every Friday night of the year, at Rabbi Mendel and Mussi’s home. A full table, candles, challah, a great deal of food and a great deal of talking. There is no charge, nothing to bring, and no one you need to know already.

Choose a week and tell us how many of you there are. A person reads every request and writes back — it is not an automatic yes, because a table has a size, but it very nearly always is.
Questions people ask
Is there really no charge?
None, and there is no collection, no envelope and no suggested donation. Friday night dinner is not a fundraiser. Come and eat.
Do I need to know anybody?
No. Most people who come the first time know nobody, and by the end of the meal that is no longer true. Say at the door that it is your first time and somebody will sit with you.
Do I need to be observant, or Jewish?
Neither. People come who keep everything, people come who keep nothing, and people come who are not Jewish at all and were brought by a friend. All of it is ordinary here.
What actually happens?
Candles, Kiddush over wine, washing and Challah, and then a long meal with a lot of talking, some singing, and a short thought on the Parsha somewhere in the middle. Two or three hours, and you can leave whenever you need to.
What should I wear, and what should I bring?
Whatever you would wear to dinner at somebody’s house. Bring nothing — and please do not bring food, because the kitchen is kosher and it makes things complicated rather than easier. If you want to bring something, bring a person.
Can I bring children?
Yes, at any age, however loud. There are children there every week.
How late can I ask?
Earlier is easier — the shopping and cooking happen on Thursday and Friday. But ask anyway, even on Friday morning. The answer is very often yes.
A question before you ask?
Kosher needs, allergies, a wheelchair, a large group, or a first time and you are nervous. Ask here and a person writes back.
