Torah
A thought for every day of the Hebrew year, from the Rebbe’s book. It is the same entry every year, on the same Hebrew date.
29 Sh'vat 5787
The Alter Rebbe once said:
Rashi's commentary on Chumash is the "wine of Torah." It opens the heart and uncovers one's essence-love[1] and essence-fear (of G‑d).
Rashi's commentary on Talmud opens the mind and uncovers the essence-intellect.[2]
Compiled and arranged by the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson, of righteous memory, in 5703 (1943) from the talks and letters of the sixth Chabad Rebbe, Rabbi Yosef Yitzchak Schneersohn, of righteous memory.
See Supplementary Footnotes in the printed version.
Rashi's genius lay (in part) in his ability to express the essence of the Talmudic concept briefly, succinctly, and in terms lucid to the beginning student, yet providing illumination to the seasoned scholar. Rashi engages the core of intellect of the student, the pre-verbal cognition that may develop into depth and breadth of comprehension.
